Turkey Narrowly Escapes EU Sanctions Over EastMed Dispute

Turkey on Tuesday narrowly escapes EU sanctions over its Eastern Mediterranean dispute with Greece, amid the regional coronavirus scare, al-Monitor reported. Turkey and Greece said they were ready to resume talks to address their respective claims for hydrocarbon reserves in the disputed area amid a Turkish stand-down in the face of EU threats of sanctions.

The statement followed talks held by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan with German Chancellor Angela Merkel and European Union Council President Charles Michel.
