Coronavirus Health Passports Coming To UK ‘Possibly In Months’

The citizens of the United Kingdom may be looking to receive “Health Passports” in the coming months as a new report from the Guardian is indicating that Tech firms are in discussions with ministers about the creation of the passports to help Britons return back to work safely using coronavirus testing and facial recognition.

According to the report, Facial biometrics may be used to help provide a digital certificate – otherwise known as an “immunity passport” – proving which workers have had Covid-19, as a possible way of easing the impact on the economy and businesses from ongoing physical distancing even after current lockdown measures are eased.

This UK-based firm Onfido, which reportedly specializes in verifying people’s identities using facial biometrics, has recently provided detailed plans to the government and is directly involved in a number of discussions regarding what could be rolled out across the UK in the coming months.

The firm could reportedly use antibody tests – proving whether someone has had the virus – or antigen tests, which show current infections.  According to experts in Digital identity, they are in the “discovery stage” of what could be tailored specifically for the UK government, and also that a health certificate provided through app technology is gaining traction. -Full Report
